The head of the Palestinian Authority said that general elections in Palestine would not be possible without Jerusalem (Quds) and that the city was the red line.
Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), the head of the Palestinian Authority, told a meeting of the Fatah movement’s central committee that general elections in Palestine would not be possible without Jerusalem Quds).
According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Abbas went on to call Al-Quds a red line and praised the resistance of the Palestinians living in Al-Quds against the conspiracies of the Zionist regime.
Emphasizing that holding elections without Al-Quds is not possible at all, the head of the Palestinian Authority called on the international community to put pressure on the Zionist regime to adhere to the signed agreements on the election process.
Abbas added that the PA intends to hold elections in all Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state, as well as in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
He went on to say that the failure to hold elections in Jerusalem would mean a return to the so-called Deal of the Century plan, which was rejected by the Palestinians.
Late last December, the head of the Palestinian Authority set a date for parliamentary elections (the legislature) after a 15-year hiatus, presidential elections after a 16-year hiatus, and National Assembly elections.
In a decree, he emphasized that the parliamentary elections will be held on May 22, 2021, the presidential elections on July 31, and the National Assembly on August 31.
