Legitimization is Netanyahu’s new trick to suspend judicial reforms for a year.
While the Minister of Justice of the Zionist regime, Yario Levin, was expected to oppose the postponement of the judicial reforms, Israel Hum newspaper reported on Tuesday that Netanyahu and Levin agreed to postpone the reforms for one year.
The “Arab 48” website added that this decision was taken in order to calm the crisis of protests in the occupied territories.
It should be noted that the bill of judicial changes is one of the main plans that Netanyahu’s cabinet is pursuing. Amendment of a part of the law “Abrogation of reasonableness proof” to reduce the powers of the Supreme Court and limit the interference of the judges of this court in the decisions of the government, was previously approved by a majority of 64 votes in favor among the 120 members of the Knesset.
According to Palestinian sources, the approval of the judicial reform plan will increase the judicial powers of the cabinet and parliament and decrease the powers of the judiciary. For this reason, this plan is facing massive public protests and so far for 32 consecutive weeks, hundreds of thousands of people of the occupied territories have been holding protests against this plan on Saturdays.
On the other hand, “Yair Lapid”, the former leader of the opposition faction in the Knesset, said on Sunday (August 8th) that if Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet wants to reach a consensus on judicial reforms in this country, the process of approving the judicial changes bill should be stopped for 18 months.
