The Prime Minister of Italy forms an international coalition against human trafficking.
The Italian Prime Minister said at a meeting in Rome that he is looking to create a grand coalition to deal with illegal immigration.
The Prime Minister of Italy announced the attempt to form a coalition to fight human trafficking at an international meeting on Sunday evening Tehran time.
According to Reuters news agency, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said at an international meeting in Rome that her government is ready to form a coalition against illegal immigration.
Illegal migration flows harm all countries in the Mediterranean, he said. Meloni said Italy is ready to absorb more people through legal channels because Europe and Italy need immigration.
The Atlantic migration route, which is usually used by migrants from countries located in southern Africa, is one of the deadliest routes in the world. According to the International Organization for Migration affiliated with the United Nations, at least 559 people died trying to reach the Canary Islands in 2022.
According to Meloni, more must be done to stop migrants trying to cross the dangerous Mediterranean crossing through unauthorized means.
He said: “Illegal immigration hurts everyone. No one benefits from this, except criminal groups.”
Arrivals in Italy have increased this year and more than 83,000 people have come to this country so far. In 2022, this figure was 34,000 people.
The European Union and Tunisia, which is the main departure point for illegal immigrants on the African continent, recently signed a strategic partnership agreement to suppress human traffickers and strengthen borders. Europe has pledged to provide 1.1 billion dollars to Tunisia.
