Approval of the resolution condemning the desecration of the Holy Quran in the Human Rights Council.
According to Anatolia news agency, the United Nations Human Rights Council issued a resolution in its 53rd regular meeting in Geneva today, condemning the attacks and desecration of the Holy Qur’an as “insults against religious sanctities”.
The United Nations Human Rights Council condemned this action with 28 votes in favor out of a total of 47 members.
This meeting was held at the invitation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
In this voting, 12 countries voted against this resolution and 7 countries abstained.
Belgium, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Romania, England and the United States voted against.
Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cameroon, China, Ivory Coast, Cuba, Eritrea, Gabon, Gambia, India, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Maldives, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates Arab, Uzbekistan and Vietnam used the positive vote in this regard.
Paraguay, Nepal, Mexico, Honduras, Georgia, Chile and Benin abstained from this resolution.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a press conference after the meeting of the heads of NATO member states in the capital of Lithuania on Wednesday: Attacking human sanctities is not freedom of thought. Barbarism, Bedouinism and a kind of terrorist act. The countries that voted against this bill today should reconsider their understanding of freedom and human rights.
In a belated move, the Swedish government condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran in this country and described it as “Islamophobia”.
The statement issued by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in this regard: The Swedish government fully understands that Islamophobic actions carried out by people in demonstrations in Sweden can be offensive to Muslims. We strongly condemn such actions, which in no way reflect the views of the Swedish government. Burning the Quran or any other holy text is considered an insulting, disrespectful and provocative act. Expressing racism, xenophobia and related intolerance has no place in Sweden or Europe!
In this regard, the Mufti of Oman, “Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Khalili”, asked the Muslims of the world to react to the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
