According to Reuters news agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Erdogan on his victory in the Turkish presidential election on Sunday night. Putin said, this victory shows that Turkish people appreciate Erdogan’s independent foreign policy.
In his message, Putin stated: “Victory in the elections was a natural result of your selfless work as the President of Turkey and is a clear proof of the support of the Turkish people for your efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and implement an independent foreign policy.”
In the second round of Turkish presidential elections, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was able to get the majority of votes (more than 50%) and remain the president of Turkey. According to Anatolia news agency, after counting 98.06% of the votes, Erdoğan was able to get 52.12% of the votes and Kılıçdaroğlu 47.88% of the votes.
Erdogan gave a speech to his supporters in Istanbul after his victory in the second round of the Turkish presidential election was confirmed. In this speech, he said: “We are lovers of Istanbul and we started our journey from this city and continue our journey from this city.”

Putin said that he attaches great importance to joint projects such as Turkey’s Akuyo nuclear power plant, which is being built by Rusatom.
Turkey and Russia began construction on the plant in 2019 amid concerns about the plant’s potentially devastating environmental consequences. Acuyo’s goal is to supply 10% of Turkey’s energy needs by launching four 1,200 MW reactors (more details).
