Riyadh must take practical steps to end the war in Yemen.
The parties involved in the Yemen case unanimously agree that the war is truly over, forever. It seems that the problem on the Saudi side is caused by several factors, the most important of which is Riyadh’s increasing concern and hesitation in imposing its own conditions in the negotiations. Therefore, the more the negotiations progress towards the final settlement, the more Riyadh hesitates. While Sanaa shows a lot of calmness and patience and deals with the issue realistically.
In this regard, Mehr News Agency’s reporter talked to Yemeni writer and journalist Ali Al-Darwani:
The Saudi delegation’s trip to Sana’a did not end with the announcement of the end of the war and the lifting of the blockade of Yemen, which many were waiting for. Is this meeting a failure, or should the final decision be made by the political leaders of both sides?
The visit of the Saudi delegation with the Omani mediator was somewhat positive, it is true that no agreement was reached, but the negotiation has not failed. In this meeting, there was a discussion about the remaining issues and it can be seen as a sign of reducing the ceiling of Saudi demand in Yemen, while Riyadh had raised its demand level in the past and was trying to assassinate the senior leaders of Sana’a. Therefore, Saudi Arabia’s policy of getting closer to neighboring countries may lead to America’s withdrawal from the region, which the Washington Institute has also pointed out.
In your opinion, after launching an aggressive war against Yemen with all its financial, military and media power, why does Saudi Arabia insist on placing itself in the position of a mediator? Is this only limited to maintaining the international image or does it hide other things about the future of Yemen and the conflict in it?
Saudi Arabia’s insistence on mediating and resolving the war through negotiation is in conflict with its current role in leading the aggression and imposing the blockade, guiding the mercenaries and supporting them to control the occupied areas of Yemen. On the one hand, Riyadh does not want to be defeated in front of Yemen, and on the other hand, it is afraid of bearing its consequences. The war of aggression, killing and siege of Yemen took place with the clear help of the United States and Saudi Arabia tried to put the Yemeni people under its rule or its vassals, an issue that “Abdul Malik al-Houthi” pointed out and emphasized in his speech for the 8th anniversary of the war in Yemen. The result of the dedication and stability of the Yemeni people is the liberation of the country from the Saudi guardianship.
