America seeks to thaw relations with China.
The National Security Adviser of the White House claimed that Washington intends to overcome the tensions between the United States and China over spy balloons.
White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese ruling party, that Washington intends to overcome the tensions between the two countries over the Chinese spy balloons.
This news was published by the Washington Post, citing a senior White House official, who wrote that this could be a possible sign of the thawing of the ice in relations between Beijing and Washington.
Sullivan and Wang Yi met in Vienna this week and talked to each other for 8 hours over two days. This is despite the fact that Chinese and American officials had previously claimed that the talks between the two officials were immediately concluded.
The senior American official cited by the Washington Post described the talks as “constructive” and “honest”.
It is said that during this meeting, Sullivan raised the issue of American citizens detained in China. Anti-narcotics operations and regional security issues, including Taiwan, have also been discussed.
The American official said: “This meeting took place in the context that the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China are seeking to increase high-level interactions and maintain communication channels and manage competition.”
The US official described the entry of a Chinese spy balloon into US airspace as an “unforeseen” event and said the Joe Biden administration is now looking to move past it.
Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday that the conversation between Sullivan and the Chinese Foreign Minister focused on “removing obstacles in the US-China relationship and preventing the deterioration of the relationship between the two countries.”
The Washington Post said Beijing’s tone in this statement seems more positive than previous statements. China has criticized America many times before for obstructing the relations between the two countries.
