NATO Secretary General: China will have 1,500 nuclear warheads in the next 12 years.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that China will have about 1,500 nuclear warheads by 2035.
The Secretary General of the NATO alliance said that it is necessary for the NATO alliance to revise and adapt its approaches in “a more dangerous and competitive world”.
He added: “Russia is the most direct threat to our security, but our security outlook on a wider level is also worrying. China is rapidly developing its nuclear arsenal without any transparency about its capabilities. Iran and North Korea are also developing their nuclear and missile programs.
The Secretary of NATO, who gave a speech at the 18th annual conference of NATO on arms control, stated: “We need to review our approach in the long term and adapt it to a more dangerous and competitive world, and this means confronting China, which is estimated to 2035 to have about 1500 warheads.
On Tuesday, the G7 countries asked China to enter into talks with the United States with the aim of reducing the risk of strategic weapons. On the same day, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the G7 countries arbitrarily criticize the nuclear policies of other countries, while they themselves weaken the international nuclear non-proliferation system.
