What is going on in Sudan? Lust for power or the risk of disintegration.
In recent days, Sudan has become the main topic of the regional and world media. The differences between the two military organizations (the Sudanese army under the command of General Abdul Fattah al-Barhan and the rapid support forces under the command of General Hamidati) have seriously complicated the situation in this country and have caused some to warn about the danger of the division of Sudan, for the second time in recent years.
It should not be overlooked that Sudan has always experienced numerous unrests in recent decades, the most important of which were military coups.
A review of the contemporary history of Sudan shows that since 1957, 15 military coups have occurred in this country in the last 66 years, which is a very high number compared to other countries in the world.

Here is a look at the coups that have taken place in Sudan in recent years:
1. In 1957, a group of army officers under the command of “Ismail Kobideh” staged a coup against the first democratic government of Sudan after the country’s independence, which failed.
2. In 1958, a number of Sudanese army officers under the command of General “Ibrahim Abboud” attempted a coup against the coalition government (Ummat Party and Democratic Alliance).
3. In 1969, the group known as the Free Officers, under the command of General Jaafar Al-Nimiri, staged a military coup against the then government after several moments of political crisis.
4. In 1971, a number of officers affiliated with the Sudan Communist Party under the command of “Hashem al-Atta” attempted a military coup that lasted for two days. This coup failed and General Al-Nimiri continued to rule.
5. In 1973, a number of military officers accused General Al-Nimiri of being affiliated with the West and staged a coup against him. This coup failed after three days and al-Nimiri returned to power once again.
