A White House spokesman said Tuesday evening that Washington believes diplomacy is the best way to deal with Iran’s nuclear program’
“Vienna talks on the Iranian nuclear issue are expected to belong and difficult,” he told a White House daily news conference.
“Joe Biden sees diplomacy as the only solution, and Washington believes in diplomacy,” Saki added.
A White House spokesman continued: “The level of US representation in Vienna is a sign of its seriousness in the talks.”
State Department spokesman Ned Price told a news conference today: “The US team hopes to leave Vienna with a better understanding of the roadmap for how to achieve the final status quo.”
Following the press conference, he ruled out the possibility of a direct dialogue between the Iranian and American teams in Vienna but did not rule it out.
“We do not expect a direct dialogue with the Iranians,” Price said. “We are ready for these talks because we are ready for diplomacy.”
A State Department spokesman described the talks in Vienna as “difficult” and said, “we know there are going to be difficult talks.”
The first round of the Borjam Joint Commission meeting, which is being held at the Grand Hotel in Vienna, ended with an agreement to continue consultations at the expert level.
