The Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia agreed with the country joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with the status of “dialogue partner”.
In its meeting last night (Tuesday, March 28), the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia approved the decision of the Riyadh government to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
According to the official news agency of the Saudi government “WAS”, in this meeting, the Saudi ministers agreed to a memorandum of understanding to grant the status of “dialogue partner” to Riyadh in the Shanghai Organization.
News sources did not mention more details about this, but this decision was taken after Saudi Aramco announced yesterday that it has increased its investments in China by several billion dollars.
“Reuters” news agency, quoting its informed sources, reported that Saudi Arabia’s accession to this organization was discussed during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Riyadh last December.
Dialogue partner status will be the first step before Saudi Arabia is granted full membership to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the medium term; An organization in which, in addition to China, Iran and Russia are also members.
