Working In Arab Countries A Nightmare For Pakistani Labor.
The sad story of Pakistani workers regarding their difficult conditions and working in inhuman conditions in Arab countries has always been objected to by civil and legal institutions both inside Pakistan and among regional and international human rights observers.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates host the largest number of Pakistani workers, along with other Arab countries in the Persian Gulf region, and the conditions of these workers in those two countries are more deplorable compared to other neighboring countries.
According to published reports, about 11 million Pakistanis have migrated abroad to find work in the last five decades due to economic problems.
The West Asian region, especially the Persian Gulf countries, is the main destination for Pakistanis who come to it to get a better source of income. However, Pakistan’s human resources, especially the working class of this country, do not have a good situation in countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The emigration of Pakistanis has increased since 1971, but between 1394 and 1397, this trend witnessed an unprecedented decrease. At the same time, the amount of labor dispatch in Pakistan increased again in 2019, so that according to official statistics, 536 thousand 18 Pakistanis left the country in one year.
The English-language newspaper “Dawn” published in Islamabad published the latest report about the plight of Pakistanis in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf and announced that Pakistani immigrants are forced to work with the lowest wages and under the pressure of employers, and are dealing with the most severe discrimination and inhumane conditions.
In this report, which was prepared by the joint efforts of civil organizations in South and Southeast Asia and unveiled in recent days during a ceremony in Islamabad, it is stated: Pakistani poor workers due to lack of understanding of labor recruitment process, exploitative labor laws in the host countries and lack of Consular and political support are facing a difficult situation. These issues further show that migrant workers in Arab countries face severe problems including lack of access to affordable health needs, justice and fair treatment by employers.
