Human rights organizations condemned the extradition of the Saudi activist from Morocco.
Human rights organizations have condemned the decision of the Maghreb judiciary to extradite the Saudi activist “Hassan Al Rabi” to his country, despite warnings that his life would be at risk.
By sending a letter to Aziz Akhnoush, the Prime Minister of Morocco, these human rights organizations strongly condemned the government’s agreement to extradite Al Rabi.
In this letter, it is stated that Maghreb handed over this Saudi Shia activist to the Saudi authorities on February 6.
Human rights organizations emphasized that Al Rabi is now facing a serious risk of persecution and serious injuries due to reasons related to his religious beliefs and family history of participating in political protests.
These human rights organizations expressed concern that the Moroccan government has violated the principle of human rights and international laws of non-refoulement, and in this regard, including the provisions of the United Nations Convention on African Refugees, the Convention against Torture , and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
According to the reports of these organizations, the Maghreb judiciary ignored all these warnings and agreed to extradite a Saudi activist to his country.
In the continuation of this letter, it is stated: This is very worrying considering Saudi Arabia’s human rights record. Because in Saudi Arabia, violations of legal procedures, arbitrary and secret arrests, forced disappearances, torture and execution of opponents and critics are still rampant.
These human rights organizations emphasized: the Moroccan government’s action in extraditing Al Rabi to Riyadh authorities also violates the Moroccan criminal procedure law.
