Biden: If China threatens our sovereignty, we will support our country.
According to Sputnik, following the tension and verbal controversy between Washington and Beijing officials over the arrival and downing of a Chinese research balloon in the US sky, US President Joe Biden announced that if China threatens US sovereignty, the US government will respond.
Addressing the American people, Joe Biden said: Make no mistake, as we clearly stated last week, if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country, and we did so.
He stated that “in order to win the competition with China, all American people must be united.” He claimed that “America is in its most powerful position in decades to compete with China or any other country in the world.”
Following Washington’s decision to shoot down a balloon that Beijing claimed had changed course due to wind and entered American airspace, China’s Foreign Ministry announced that this decision has severely overshadowed the relationship between the two countries.
On Saturday evening, American media reported that the country’s army shot down a Chinese balloon in front of the coast of Carolina. American Defense Minister Lloyd Austin claimed that the Chinese balloon that was shot down was used for espionage purposes and to monitor the strategic centers of the United States!
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China expressed its displeasure with the action of the United States in shooting down the balloon belonging to this country. China’s foreign minister said: “We are unhappy with the use of force by the United States to shoot down a balloon that is used for meteorological and weather monitoring purposes.” The Chinese Foreign Ministry also added that Beijing reserves the right to react to this US action.
In the continuation of increasing tensions between Beijing and Washington over this issue, John Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator of the US National Security Council, announced on Tuesday that Washington considers US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to China inappropriate at this point in time. However, the diplomatic contact between Beijing and Washington will continue and, as mentioned earlier, when the time is right, he will discuss with his Chinese counterparts about setting new dates for the meetings.
