ISLAMABAD: An Inter-Governmental Commission meeting was held between Pakistan and Russia for cooperation in other areas including purchase of oil at low price.
A meeting was held between the two countries to promote cooperation in the fields of oil purchase, wheat purchase and trade, economy, science and technical cooperation at a 30% discount, in which an 80-member Russian delegation participated.
In his opening address at the Pakistan-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission meeting, Federal Secretary Economic Affairs Division Dr. Kazim Niaz said that there is a need to take full advantage of the competitive potential of cooperation between Pakistan and Russia in various fields.

He said that floods in the country during the last monsoon have caused massive loss of life and property and Pakistan appreciates the support of the international community to help the flood affected people. The help that the international community gave to Pakistan in the time of crisis is commendable.
The Federal Secretary Economic Affairs Division appreciated the assistance provided by Russia in the time of crisis. He said that the purpose of this inaugural session of the Inter-Governmental Commission of Pakistan and Russia is to promote the relations between the two countries by finding ways of cooperation in various fields.
Dr. Kazim Niaz said that Pakistan wants to promote relations and cooperation with the international community including Russia in the fields of trade, economy and investment and this is also among the top priorities of the current government.
Head of the Russian delegation and Deputy Director of the Ministry of Economic Development Israfel Alizadeh said in the meeting that Russia values its relations with Pakistan. At present, there are good relations between the two countries in various sectors of the economy and we want to further promote it. Both economies have vast potential that needs to be tapped.
