KARACHI: Governor State Bank Jameel Ahmad has said that the pressure of import is so much, for which dollars are not enough.
Speaking at the Federation of Industries and Commerce (FPCCI), Governor State Bank said that these problems did not arise in a few days. We have to see how the economy can be improved.
He said that we made some circulars in 2022, the aim of which was to control the current account deficit. The permission of the State Bank was placed on imports, due to which the imports decreased, the inflows decreased and the deficit increased as the outflows increased.
Governor State Bank said that we have cleared 33,000 cases, we did this extra work, which was not ours. 6500 import cases are being cleared every month. In December, these clearance cases have exceeded 11 thousand. The import pressure is such that the dollar is insufficient.
Addressing the function at FPCCI, Governor State Bank added that we have issued instructions to commercial banks to open LCs on sight. Foodstuffs, medicines, oil and gas and agriculture have been kept on priority basis besides textile and other export sector cases have also been resolved.
