Discovery of uranium at London airport; The 60-year-old suspect was arrested.
London Metropolitan Police announced that they have arrested a 60-year-old man after discovering a package containing uranium particles in one of the incoming flights at Heathrow Airport.
According to the London police, this person was arrested on suspicion of committing a terrorist act and was released on bail during the investigation.
Richard Smith, head of the London Police’s counter-terrorism unit, said that despite the arrest of the suspect, “the discovered uranium does not appear to pose a threat to the public.”
Police officers were dispatched to an address in Cheshire yesterday (Sunday) and transferred the suspect to a police station in the northwest of England. He is currently out on bail until April.
