The US Senate approved the military budget of 858 billion dollars.
This budget is 45 billion dollars more than the amount requested by US President Joe Biden and was approved with 83 votes in favor against 11 votes against.
A number of liberal senators who oppose increasing the military budget and a group of conservative senators who emphasize reducing government spending voted against this bill.
The US House of Representatives approved this bill last week, and Biden is expected to approve it soon.
The US defense budget bill for fiscal year 2023 includes a 4.6% increase in military salaries, funding for the purchase of weapons, ships and aircraft, and support for Ukraine and Taiwan.
James Einhoff, the senior Republican senator on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a statement: “This is the most important bill we pass every year.”
According to the new defense budget bill, the US is going to provide $800 million in security aid to Ukraine and billions of dollars in military and weapons aid to Taiwan.
Also, the army will be allowed to allocate more funds to the development of hypersonic weapons, the purchase of weapon systems, and the purchase of F-35 fighters and ships manufactured by General Dynamics.
