The biggest violator of women’s rights in the world removed Iran from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
According to the official statement of international lawmakers, this matter – that is, voting to expel a country from an international commission – is basically unprecedented, and the removal of a country from the United Nations Commission on Women can be a heresy and have serious legal consequences for other members.
With the illegal efforts of the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, which had become a member of the United Nations Commission on Women through a democratic process and with a majority vote, was removed from this commission.
The resolution to terminate Iran’s membership was approved with 29 votes in favor, 8 votes against and 16 abstentions.
Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Benin, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liberia, Libya, Montenegro, New Zealand, Panama , Peru, Portugal, South Korea, United Kingdom and America were the countries that voted in favor.
The countries of Bolivia, China, Kazakhstan, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Oman, Russia and Zimbabwe voted against the proposed resolution to remove Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
Bangladesh, Botswana, Belize, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Swatini, Gabon, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mexico, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Mauritius, Tunisia and Tanzania also voted to withdraw Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women.
In his speech, the representative of Venezuela criticized this political action of the United States against Iran and called this action political work in an international organization, which is a kind of attack on the United Nations Charter. The representatives of Brazil, Pakistan, China, Russia and Syria also criticized and opposed the exclusion of Iran.
The representative of Russia, opposing the removal of Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women, said: “Have you read the definition of the United Nations at all?” Our Western colleagues are used to destroying efficient international structures… The membership of France and England in this commission should be investigated because of the harsh treatment of women.
