The Taliban once again demanded Afghanistan’s seat in the United Nations.
Despite the UN’s emphasis on the non-recognition of the interim government of the Taliban, this group has called the absence of its representative in the UN unfair.
Sohail Shaheen, the elected representative of the Taliban to the United Nations, has called it unfair in response to the non-attendance of the representative of the interim government of the Taliban in the United Nations.
Shaheen wrote in a tweet: Afghanistan was a former member of the United Nations and in the current situation of Afghanistan, the representative of the interim government of the Taliban must be present in all the meetings of the United Nations and the meetings in order to convey the facts to the world and it is an injustice that until now this seat The interim government of the Taliban has not been handed over, we ask the United Nations to give the seat of Afghanistan’s representative in the United Nations to the interim government of the Taliban and end this injustice.
Last year, after the re-establishment of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Shaheen was introduced as the permanent representative of Afghanistan in the United Nations. But it was rejected by this organization.
United Nations: We do not recognize the interim government of the Taliban
Meanwhile, the United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution regarding Afghanistan, based on which the international community will not recognize the interim government of the Taliban if it does not respect human rights, including the rights of women, girls and minorities.
116 countries have voted in favor of the resolution, while 10 countries, including Russia and China, have abstained and raised concerns about the “unbalanced text”.
This resolution calls for full respect for human rights and meaningful participation of women in all areas of life.
Also, in this resolution, concern has been expressed about the developments and fluctuations in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over in August last year, the dire economic and social conditions, continuous violence and the presence of terrorist groups.
