The House of Representatives of Bahrain was established by the Constitution of 2002 and consists of forty members who are elected through popular vote, and the last parliamentary elections were held in late 2018.
While Bahraini figures and groups have been calling for a widespread boycott of the elections for months, today with the opening of the polling stations, more than 330 candidates, including 73 women, competed with each other to fill 40 seats in the House of Representatives. This is despite the absence of opposition parties, the intensity of competition between candidates has decreased, although the number of candidates is very high.
