Japanese publication: America and Taiwan have entered into negotiations for the joint production of weapons.
According to a report from a Japanese newspaper, the US and Taiwan are negotiating a joint production of weapons.
The Japanese newspaper Nikkei, quoting three informed people, wrote that Washington and Taipei are engaged in negotiations aimed at joint production of weapons.
According to these news sources, these negotiations are in the “preliminary” stages and the topic is the transfer of American military technologies to Taiwan with the aim of producing them on this island or making weapons in America using parts produced in Taiwan.
A news source told this Japanese business newspaper: “These negotiations need time to really bear fruit.”
This source added, these negotiations may continue until next year.
According to “Sputnik” news agency, until today the authorities and arms manufacturers of America and Taiwan have emphasized on the non-production of any weapons or ammunition by the two sides, and the cooperation between America and Taiwan in this field is limited to the sale of American weapons to this island.
The United States has sold tens of billions of dollars of military hardware to Taiwan in the past few decades, which violates the “One China” principle that governs US-China relations and Washington’s informal relations with Taipei.
Last month, the Pentagon approved a new package of arms sales to Taiwan worth $1.1 billion. China condemned this decision and emphasized that it will “severely weaken” the security and sovereignty interests of the People’s Republic of China, damage Sino-American relations and send a “very wrong signal” to Taiwan’s separatist forces.
Also, last month, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee presented a controversial draft law called the “Taiwan Policy Act of 2022”. The bipartisan bill would require Washington to provide $4.5 billion in “security assistance” to Taipei and authorize a $2 billion loan for additional weapons.
