ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has left for the US on an official visit, he will attend the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, and will also hold talks with IMF and World Bank officials in sideline meetings.
According to Finance Ministry officials, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will hold talks with IMF representatives on the loan program during his visit to the US, while talks will also be held with World Bank officials on other issues including funds.
Pakistan will formally request a revision of the macroeconomic framework for the current fiscal year 2022-23, seeking relaxation of rising inflation, declining GDP growth, budget deficit and current account deficit targets.
According to the sources, the IMF will also be requested to ease the conditions attached to the Extended Fund Facility, including freezing the petroleum levy and electricity fuel price adjustments for the next few months.
The revision of the macroeconomic framework will be called for in the wake of severe floods this fiscal year that have wreaked havoc and cost Pakistan’s struggling economy more than $30 billion in construction costs.
