ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that he wants environmental justice from the international community, not begging for help, financial support should not be in the form of loans because the developed countries are responsible for environmental destruction.
While giving an interview to British newspaper Guardian, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan should not be forced to beg for help from the rich countries that caused these problems of environmental pollution after the catastrophic floods. No, we want environmental justice from the international community, we don’t want financial support in the form of loans.
Pakistan is currently facing problems such as health, food and citizens displaced by devastating floods, one third of Pakistan is submerged in water due to the devastating monsoon rains, some areas have received 1.7 mm of rain. It has the highest rainfall.
He said that all this is happening due to environmental changes, Pakistan accounts for 0.8% of the emission of toxic gases in the environment, which is negligible, but developed countries are responsible for this situation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that I have never seen such a disaster that has happened in Pakistan due to the recent floods, millions of people have become homeless and have come under the open sky, they have become refugees in their own country.
Referring to billions of rupees in international aid and donations, he said that though more aid had been promised, it was “inadequate”, the scale and scope of the disaster being so vast that it was impossible for Pakistan to meet with its own resources.
