Islamabad: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the army has kept itself away from politics. I will retire after completing the second term of office after two months.
In an informal conversation in Washington, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa reiterated his retirement on completion of the fixed term of office and said that he will retire on completion of the second term after two months. He said that this is expressed. It has been done before.
On the occasion of lunch at the Pakistani embassy in Washington, the army chief said that the army has kept itself away from politics. Restoring the weak country’s economy should be the first priority of all sections of the society. Without a strong economy, the nation will not be able to achieve its goals. He said that there can be no diplomacy without a strong economy.
Meanwhile, according to the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, during his visit to the United States, met Defense Secretary General (retd) Lloyd James Austin (III), National Security Adviser Jacob Jeremiah Sullivan and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Ruth Sherman, in which bilateral cooperation in various fields including issues of mutual interest, regional security situation were discussed.
Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa thanked the US authorities for their cooperation with Pakistan in the meetings and said that the help provided by our international partners will be important for the rehabilitation of the flood victims in Pakistan. In the meeting, both countries agreed that Pakistan and the US have a long history of bilateral cooperation and will continue to improve through economic relations, trade and investment.
Apart from this, the Army Chief expressed his condolences over the deaths and destruction caused by the hurricane in Florida. He said that Pakistan understands the loss and pain of the victims’ families as Pakistan is facing similar effects of climate change. It was agreed in the meeting that there is a need for cooperation on important international issues including Afghanistan and to avoid humanitarian crisis and improve peace and stability in the region.
