Expressing concern over Russian authorities’ warnings of using nuclear weapons for self-defense, Turkey’s president said the cost of turning the war in Ukraine into a nuclear conflict would be catastrophic.
In a conversation with the media, Erdoğan explained: “We are going to take steps on the issue of building a nuclear power plant in Sinop.” We have discussed this issue in detail with Mr. Putin and we will continue the conversation.”
According to “Ryanovsti” website, in another part of his talk about Russia’s warning to the West about resorting to nuclear weapons for self-defense, he warned that nuclear war would be catastrophic.
Expressing concern that the Ukraine war will turn into another nuclear war, Erdogan said: “The cost of turning [the Ukraine war] into a nuclear war is catastrophic. We shouldn’t even think about it, let alone talk about it. Solving this issue through diplomacy will be the most correct step.”
It was last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced limited military mobilization and said that Western countries seek to weaken, disintegrate and completely destroy Russia, but Moscow also has nuclear weapons and uses any means to defend itself.
Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he did not think Putin was bluffing when he spoke of Moscow’s readiness to use nuclear weapons.
