Saudi Arabia donated 3.5 million dollars to the Atomic Energy Agency.
Saudi Arabia announced that it has donated a total of $3.5 million to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The government of Saudi Arabia announced today (Sunday) that it has provided two financial assistances of 2.5 million dollars and 1 million dollars to this international organization for what it announced to advance the plans of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
According to the official Saudi news agency (WAS), the aid package of 2.5 million dollars is dedicated to the modernization of the “Sybersdorf” laboratories and the “Renewal 2” project, which helps to strengthen the monitoring capabilities in the nuclear and radiological fields in order to promote the use of nuclear technologies to Maximize and provide resources and services to IAEA Member States to ensure the safe use of nuclear technology.
Saudi Arabia has also contributed $1 million to help the agency’s plan to combat zoonotic diseases, which Riyadh says will help prevent the spread of these diseases, as well as early detection and rapid response.
This financial aid comes at a time when the discussion on the resolution of IAEA safeguards issues is one of the main points of disagreement between Iran and Western countries in the negotiations to lift sanctions, and Tehran insists that the safeguards issues file must be closed before signing any agreement.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia has repeatedly taken a stand against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the International Atomic Energy Agency and accused Tehran of not clarifying its activities. In this regard, Riyadh’s representative in the IAEA accused Iran of taking an ambiguous approach in its nuclear program on June 19. At the same time, the Saudi Foreign Ministry also supported and welcomed the anti-Iranian resolution of the Council of Governors.
