Greek Foreign Ministry: Turkey weakens NATO cohesion
The Greek Foreign Ministry said that the Turkish authorities are weakening the cohesion of NATO with their harsh and provocative statements, and Athens will warn other members of the alliance about this.
Following the political and diplomatic tensions between Ankara and Athens, this time the Greek Foreign Ministry described Turkey as a cause of weakening the cohesion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday evening that the Turkish authorities are weakening the cohesion of NATO with their harsh and provocative statements, and Athens will warn other members of the alliance about this.
According to “Ryanvosti” website, the ministry said in a statement referring to Ankara’s latest hostile statements that Greece will not pay attention to the daily threats and humiliating insults of the Turkish authorities.
“We will inform our allies and partners [in NATO] without delay about the content of Turkey’s provocative statements in recent days to determine who is undermining the cohesion of our alliance in this dangerous period,” the statement said.
According to this report, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated about the maritime activities that Turkey claims to be aggression: “We continue our activities based on international laws and maritime rights, which are the pillars of stability and security of the entire region.”
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Greece of occupying the islands belonging to Ankara and warned that when the time comes, they will do what is necessary. (More details)
Turkey has complained to NATO members about Greece’s repeated provocative actions and rhetoric in the region in recent months, saying such actions undermine good faith efforts for peace.
The Turkish fighters, which participated in missions over the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean, were harassed by the Russian-made S-300 air defense system based on the island of “Crete” during the past days. Meanwhile, Greek military officials have categorically rejected Turkey’s claim.
