Seyyed Moqtada Sadr, the leader of the Iraqi Sadr movement, claimed on Monday that he will withdraw from all political activities. Following his statement, rioters supporting the Sadr movement in the Green Zone attacked some government buildings.
Supporters of the Sadr Movement are also in the Green Zone in scattered groups in different streets of this area and some are chanting slogans in support of Moqtada Sadr and some are trying to enter government buildings. Special forces have also been deployed on Al-Maalaq bridge to prevent other supporters of Sadr from entering the green zone, at the same time all the doors of the green zone have been closed and a large number of security forces have been deployed in front of them.
For more than a month, Sadr’s movement in Iraq has been leading its supporters to protest due to political differences, and by occupying the parliament building, they have shut down the country’s political process and delayed the formation of a new government. According to experts, it is hoped that with Moqtada Sadr’s withdrawal from political activities, such gatherings and riots will eventually be dismantled.
