Political Chaos in Iraq, US and UK responded.
In a statement, the American Embassy in Baghdad called today’s events in Iraq worrying.
The American embassy also took the gesture of inviting the groups to calm down and added: “The United States is concerned about these tensions and encourages all parties to be peaceful and refrain from any actions that lead to violence.”
According to the Iraqi News Agency (WAA), the statement also states that “it is appropriate to prevent endangering Iraq’s security, stability and sovereignty, and it is time to resolve differences through dialogue and not through confrontation.”
According to the report of Al-Mayadeen network, the British Embassy in Baghdad also expressed great concern about the events in Iraq in a statement and called on all parties to refrain from violence.
Seyyed Moqtada Sadr, the leader of Iraq’s Sadr Movement, claimed this afternoon (Monday) that he is withdrawing from all political activities. Following the issuance of his statement, rioters supporting the Sadr Movement in the Green Zone attacked some government buildings.
For more than a month, Sadr’s movement in Iraq has been leading its supporters to protest due to political differences, and by occupying the parliament building, they have shut down the country’s political process and delayed the formation of a new government. According to experts, it is hoped that with Moqtada Sadr’s withdrawal from political activities, such gatherings and riots will eventually be dismantled.
