Lahore: Lahore High Court has issued notices to Sabatin Khan, Secretary Law and Presiding Officer on the petition against the election of Speaker Punjab Assembly.
A hearing was held on the petition filed against the election of Speaker Punjab Assembly, a 2-member bench headed by Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabbir of Lahore High Court heard the petition of Muslim League (N).
Muslim League (N) lawyer Mansoor Awan took the position that serial numbers were written on the ballot papers used in the election of the Speaker, secret voting was not possible due to the inclusion of serial numbers, writing serial numbers on the ballot paper is against the constitution. There is a violation.
During the hearing, the Lahore High Court inquired that which is the forum against the Speaker’s election? Can the Election Commission look into this matter? On which Muslim League (N) lawyer Mansoor Awan said that the election commission cannot look into the election of the president, speaker of the assembly, chairman of the senate, these elections are held under the constitution.
The court further inquired whether the Speaker’s election had ever been challenged in court before in the history of Pakistan, to which Mansoor Awan replied that we are passing through a time where many things are happening for the first time.
In the meantime, the Lahore High Court accepted the request of Muslim League (N) and issued notices to Speaker Punjab Assembly Sabatin Khan, Presiding Officer, Punjab Government and Secretary Punjab Assembly.
Apart from this, the High Court also issued notices to the Attorney General of Pakistan and Advocate General Punjab and adjourned the case for further hearing.
It should be noted that last week Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Sabatin Khan was elected as the new Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. Earlier, the post of Speaker became vacant after Pakistan Muslim League (Q) leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi became the Chief Minister. was
Sabatin Khan got 185 votes while Muslim League (N)’s Saiful Mulok Khokhar got 175 votes and 4 votes were rejected.
