Syria cut diplomatic ties with Ukraine.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry announced the country’s decision to cut off diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
An official source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced that, based on the principle of reciprocity and in response to Ukraine’s decision, this country has decided to cut diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
According to the report of the official Syrian news agency “SANA”, this source added, the Syrian government recalls that the Ukrainian government practically severed its relations with Syria since 2018 when it refused to renew the visas of Syrian diplomats working in the Syrian embassy in Kyiv. It made the diplomats unable to perform their duties and as a result of the hostile actions of the Ukrainian government, the activity of the embassy was suspended.
On the 9th of July, the Ukrainian government announced the complete termination of its relations with the Syrian government. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev has severed relations with Syria in response to Damascus’ decision to recognize the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
“There will be no more relations between Ukraine and Syria,” Zelensky said in a video message on his official Telegram channel.
