US Ambassador: The purpose of Biden’s visit is to strengthen Israeli-Saudi relations.
Following the White House announcement of the US President’s imminent visit to the region, the US Ambassador to Tel Aviv announced that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations between Tel Aviv and Riyadh.
In an interview with the Israeli newspaper Israel Hume today (Thursday), Washington’s Ambassador to Tel Aviv, Thomas Nydes, described the purpose of US President Joe Biden’s visit to the region.
According to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, quoting Israel Hume, Naides said that the purpose of Biden’s visit to the region next month is to “strengthen Israeli-Saudi relations.”
According to the report, Nadides added that Biden would try to develop a “regional security framework”.
The US ambassador to Tel Aviv says Biden describes himself as “a Zionist for whom Israeli security is very important” and that his visit to the region reflects his relationship with Tel Aviv, which “cannot be compromised”.
Israel Hume suggested that Biden announce the establishment of a security forum in the region with the participation of Tel Aviv and Washington during his visit. The Hebrew newspaper added that the countries that are likely to join the forum are Bahrain, the UAE, Sudan, Egypt and Jordan.
Israel Hume also quoted several Zionist sources as saying that the formation of the Security Council did not mean an agreement to normalize relations with Saudi Arabia; But he added that the move would play a role in organizing security co-operation between Tel Aviv and Riyadh.
According to the report, Israeli War Minister Bani Gantz is behind the idea of forming a security council in the region, and the purpose of forming this council is to confront the so-called threat of Iran’s nuclear program.
Israel Hume also noted that Gantz had consulted with his American counterpart Lloyd Austin on the idea during a recent visit to Washington.
