Riyadh does not dare to oppose White House orders.
The United Nations announced a few days ago that the ceasefire in Yemen has been extended for another two months with the same clauses of the previous agreement. At the suggestion of the United Nations, a two-month ceasefire was established in Yemen from April 2, according to which the ceasefire will include the cessation of all military ground, air and sea operations inside and outside Yemen and the cessation of all ongoing operations in the field. The carrier of oil derivatives arrives at Al-Hudaidah port in two months. During this period, Sanaa airport will resume its activities in a limited way and will have two commercial flights to Jordan and Egypt every week.
According to the document, as soon as the ceasefire is implemented, the UN envoy invites the parties to the conflict to convene a meeting to open the roads in Taiz province and other provinces to facilitate the movement of civilians. The parties to the dispute with the UN envoy are also considering proposals for further steps to end the war.
The agreement was implemented for two months from April 2 to June 2, 2022, and with the end of the ceasefire, which was repeatedly violated by the Saudi aggression coalition, UN consultations began to renew it and finally the UN Special Envoy for Affairs Yemen announced an agreement to extend it for another two months.
Mehr News Agency correspondent Warda Saad spoke with Yemeni media activist Hamid Rizq.
** What is your view on extending the ceasefire?
The Saudi coalition is not serious about stopping the war in Yemen and establishing peace, and this is in a situation where they are defeated militarily and strategically against the Yemeni people and they feel frustrated. In their view, the philosophy of a ceasefire is nothing more than buying time to sort out their possible situation inside Yemen and gaining military readiness for a new round of war and aggression. The aftermath of the Ukraine crisis and the need for oil and energy in the European and American markets has prompted the United States to press Saudi Arabia to agree to a ceasefire extension.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni National Salvation Government has conditions, the most obvious of which are the adherence of the coalition member states to the ceasefire and the establishment of flights from Sanaa airport and the arrival of ships carrying oil derivatives to Al-Hadid port and stopping the ceasefire violation by Saudi Arabia, especially drones and warplanes. It is a Saudi coalition.
** Observers believe that the military ceasefire in Yemen has not achieved its goals and Yemeni officials are also dissatisfied with it, what is the reason and is Saudi Arabia looking to waste time?
The previous ceasefire goals were not achieved and the Saudi coalition did not adhere to its clauses. That is, the aggressors do not want the Yemeni people to breathe, but they want to feel the breaking of the siege and isolation. They procrastinate and sabotage and obstruct the implementation of ceasefire clauses.
