France asks Iran to release two seized Greek tankers.
The French Foreign Ministry has called on the authorities of the Islamic Republic to release the two seized Greek tankers in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
A spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to release the two Greek tankers detained in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
On Friday (June 26th), the IRGC navy seized two Greek tankers for violations in Persian Gulf waters, Arab News reported.
“We urge Iran to release the crew and ships immediately,” a French foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement, urging Iranian officials to release the tankers.
“France reiterates its commitment to the rules of international law in support of maritime freedom and safety,” the statement said. “We urge Iran to immediately end its actions that violate these laws.”
The officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced on Saturday that the crew of the two Greek tankers are in perfect health and are not in custody.
Earlier, the IRGC’s public relations department announced in a statement regarding the seizure of Greek tankers: “The IRGC navy on Friday seized two Greek tankers due to violations in the waters of the Persian Gulf. The two ships were detained, one near Assaluyeh and the other near Bandar Lengeh near the island of Hindurabi. “Both ships, named Prudent Warrior and Delta Poseidon, were sailing under the Greek flag and were seized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy.”
Despite the fact that Greek tankers have been seized for violations, Greece has condemned the seizure of the two ships as “equivalent to piracy” and has warned its citizens not to travel to Iran.
Greece claims that one of the tankers was moving in international waters and the second tanker was off the coast of Iran at the time of the seizure.
