The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved the reference of 25 deviant PTI members who voted for Hamza Shahbaz in the election of Punjab Chief Minister and de-seated them.
The ECP unanimously pronounced the verdict in the light of the Supreme Court’s interpretation of Article 63A.
Deviant legislators include Raja Saghir Ahmed, Malik Ghulam Rasool Sangha, Saeed Akbar Khan, Muhammad Ajmal, Abdul Aleem Khan, Nazir Ahmad Chauhan, Muhammad Amin Zulqarnain, Malik Noman Langarial, Muhammad Salman, Zawar Hussain Waraich, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Fida Hussain and Zahra. Batool, Mohammad Tahir, Ayesha Nawaz, Sajida Yusuf, Haroon Imran Gill, Azma Kardar, Malik Asad Ali, Ejaz Masih, Mohammad Sabteen Raza, Mohsin Ata Khan Khosa, Mian Khalid Mahmood, Mehr Mohammad Aslam, Faisal Hayat.
Many of these members belong to Jahangir Tareen group, Aleem Khan group and Asad Khokhar group.
After the ECP’s decision, Khalid Ishaq, a lawyer for the dissident assembly members, told Dawn News that an appeal could be lodged in the Supreme Court against the ECP’s decision and that the ECP’s decision could be challenged within 30 days as per law. Is.
He said that the Supreme Court could decide on appeals within 90 days but the decision to file appeals would be taken after consultation.
The Election Commission had announced its decision on the disqualification reference today (Friday) at 3 p.m.
The ECP had issued notices to the defendants in the case a day earlier.
The commission had on May 17 reserved its decision on the reference, saying that it would be announced the next day (Wednesday) at 12 noon, but the announcement was later postponed.
