Riyadh claimed: They have no dispute with Washington.
The Saudi embassy in the United States has claimed that reports of a dispute between Riyadh and Washington are untrue.
The Saudi embassy in Washington on Thursday (yesterday) responded to a report by the Wall Street Journal claiming that there was no dispute between the Saudi and US governments.
According to the Al-Khaleej Online website, a short statement from the Saudi embassy in Washington claimed that the two countries’ officials are in touch with each other at the highest levels on a daily basis and that there is joint coordination on common issues such as security, investment and energy.
“In the last 77 years of Saudi-US relations, there have been differences of opinion on the Goganon issue, but this has not stopped it,” the statement said, acknowledging the differences between Riyadh and Washington. “That the two countries do not find a way to cooperate in the common interest.”
The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday published an article on the differences between the two countries, especially after the outbreak of war in Ukraine in late February. According to the newspaper, the main differences revolve around the increase in oil production.
According to the newspaper, “Mohammad bin Salman” had told Jack Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser, to Riyadh in September 2021 that he no longer wanted to talk about increasing oil production.
A senior US official told The Wall Street Journal that the White House had stopped asking the Saudis to increase their supply of crude oil to the market and instead simply asked the Saudis not to do anything that would be to the detriment of Western efforts in Ukraine.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Biden is facing strong opposition from Republican and Democratic lawmakers for approaching Saudi Arabia, especially after the Saudi Crown Prince had little desire to withdraw from a lucrative alliance with Moscow to control oil production.
