Disclosure of UAE moves to prevent Egypt from converging with Turkey.
A Saudi media outlet has quoted sources claiming that the UAE has intensified its pressure on Egypt to thwart any convergence between Cairo and Ankara.
According to Al-Alam, Al-Waqi Al-Saudi website, “Abu Dhabi” Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed has used all channels of contact with the Egyptian regime to put pressure on it to prevent the convergence with Ankara.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşo .lu announced intelligence and diplomatic contacts with Egypt.
On the other hand, Egyptian sources stated that Turkey has established diplomatic contacts with the Egyptian side and is looking forward to expanding bilateral cooperation.
According to some sources, Turkey has offered to meet with the Egyptian side to discuss ways of bilateral cooperation, but these contacts and meetings are still in the early stages.
In the wake of these developments and Abu Dhabi’s hostility to Ankara, it has pressured the Egyptian side to cancel its convergence with Turkey.
The sources said that the UAE’s intelligence and diplomatic chiefs had incited senior Egyptian officials to halt the convergence process between Cairo and Ankara.
The UAE has called on the Egyptian government to impose strict conditions on Turkey in order to achieve this convergence, including “the need to stop Turkish military intervention in Libya and end military and logistical support from the parties involved in Libya, as well as the extradition of Egyptian dissidents in Turkey.”
Of course, it seems that the Egyptian government, while welcoming this position of the UAE, is trying to extort money from Abu Dhabi and get more financial aid from it.
