The Chinese embassy in the United States, in response to Western media reports about Moscow requesting weapons from Beijing, stressed that the most important thing now is to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.
“I have never heard Russia ask China for military assistance,” said a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington.
The Financial Times reported on Sunday that a US official had said that Russia had requested military equipment and other assistance from China since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine.
White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will travel to Rome on Monday for high-level talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi to discuss the Ukraine crisis with US officials, US officials said Sunday evening. The senior Beijing official is in talks.
