The head of the Zionist regime is traveling to Turkey.
The Office of the President of the Zionist regime announced that Ishaq Herzog and his wife will leave for Turkey on Wednesday, March 9 (March 18) at the official invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Herzog’s visit will be the first by a Zionist leader to Turkey in more than a decade after a period of tension between the two sides; However, Herzog has spoken to Erdogan on the phone several times since taking office last year.
Tensions between Israel and Turkey began in 2008, when then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert launched a war in Gaza a few days after meeting with Erdogan, after which Turkey strongly condemned the war.
Relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv were completely severed in 2010 after nine civilians were killed in an Israeli naval commando attack on the Turkish fleet carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The two sides resumed diplomatic relations six years later, and in 2016 their ambassadors were re-established; But two years later, Ankara expelled the Israeli ambassador for the martyrdom of large numbers of Palestinians in the Israeli army’s response to the Gaza border protests.
Erdogan has repeatedly said in 2021 that Turkey is ready to improve relations with Israel, but analysts say the change may be due to the country’s economic crisis and tensions with the United States.
