Zelensky: We will fight even if the bombing continues.
The Ukrainian president said in a video message Saturday evening that the struggle would not stop even as the bombing continued.
“We will fight to save our country and, no matter how long it takes,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky.
“We will fight even when the bombing continues,” he said in a video message.
“Our nation’s readiness to defend Ukraine has thwarted three scenarios of occupation,” he added.
The presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan are trying to arrange talks with Russia, Zelensky said.
“I thank my friend Erdogan for his support and we agreed on the need to prevent Russian warships from crossing the Black Sea,” he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday that he had ordered the Russian Armed Forces to launch a special operation in the Donbas region. Putin said the order came after leaders of the breakaway region of eastern Ukraine called for Russian military assistance in response to escalating “Ukrainian aggression.”
“All attempts by Russia to reach an agreement on NATO not advancing on Russian territory have failed,” Putin said, referring to the authorization of special military operations in the Donbas region.
Various Western countries, including the United States and Britain, and members of the European Union have imposed heavy sanctions on Moscow following Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. Two months ago, the Russian government submitted its package of security guarantees to the United States and NATO, which included Ukraine’s non-membership in NATO and the withdrawal of coalition forces from Eastern Europe.
