Russia: NATO has no reason to call Russia’s military operation “aggression.”
A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said NATO had no reason to call Russia’s military operation in Ukraine an “aggression.”
“NATO has no reason to call Russia’s military operation in Ukraine an ‘aggression,'” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Saturday evening.
“Given the inability of NATO countries to negotiate and their unwillingness to truly strengthen security in Europe on the basis of the principle of equal and indivisible security, we consider their efforts to accuse Russia of aggression baseless,” he said.
“Before Russia can be held accountable for its actions to demilitarize Ukraine, NATO countries must respond to their military adventure, as well as passivity in encouraging the Kiev regime to resolve the Donbas issue peacefully,” Zakharova added.
Various Western countries, including the United States and Britain, and members of the European Union have imposed heavy sanctions on Moscow following Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. Two months ago, the Russian government submitted its package of security guarantees to the United States and NATO, which included Ukraine’s non-membership in NATO and the withdrawal of coalition forces from Eastern Europe.
