14.6 million people in Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance.
The United Nations says 14.6 million people in Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance this year, up from 13.4 million last year.
A report released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) states that 76 percent of families in Syria are unable to meet their basic needs, up 10 percent from last year.
According to the report, refugees inside Syria make up 37% of those in need of humanitarian assistance, according to Russia Today.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) explained that those who had not been displaced or returned to their areas before January 2021 were increasingly unable to meet their basic needs, a sign that the crisis in Syria was spreading.
“The tragedy in Syria is at its highest level since the beginning of the crisis,” Mark Katz, the UN Deputy Assistant Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs, tweeted.
He added that the aid of the United Nations and its partners reaches 7 million people every month, but more support is needed.
Despite the return of many countries to natural diplomatic relations with the Syrian government after a decade of war in the country, the United States still maintains its hostile stance and while occupying areas close to Syria, it is difficult to impose illegal sanctions on the Syrian people.
