Europe to Tel Aviv: Stop construction in East Jerusalem.
Several European countries have called the Zionist regime’s construction in the occupied East Jerusalem a violation of international law, saying it undermines efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state and a two-state solution.
The foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy and Spain on Wednesday evening called on Israeli officials to stop building new housing units in East Jerusalem.
Earlier this month, Zionist officials approved plans to build about 3,500 Zionist units in the eastern part of occupied Jerusalem, about half of which are to be built in the tense areas of Giyat Hamatos and Har Homa.
According to Reuters, European countries said in a statement, referring to international peace efforts to create a state for the Palestinians, that hundreds of new buildings would be “an additional obstacle to a two-state solution.”
They said construction in the area would cut off the West Bank from East Jerusalem as much as possible, and that the settlements were in violation of international law.
According to Reuters, the Zionist regime occupied East Jerusalem, including the Old City, in the 1967 war and then annexed it to other parts of occupied Palestine, a move that was not recognized internationally.
The foreign ministers of Germany, France, Italy and Spain also expressed concern about the forced evacuation of Palestinians from their homes and the demolition of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
It was on Wednesday morning that members of a Palestinian family who had resisted the Zionist attempt to demolish their house for several days were arrested and the house was demolished. (More details)
Due to the continuing pressure from the Zionist settlers and their collusion with the courts in Jerusalem, the danger of displacement and forced migration of nearly 500 Palestinians in Jerusalem, who have 28 houses in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, is threatened.
