Last week, Karim Massimov, the former head of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee, was arrested on charges of treason.
Anwar Sadeghlov and the “Irgazin government”, former deputies of the chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, were also arrested in connection with the case.
Hundreds of people rallied in the cities of Aktau and Zhanaozin in Kazakhstan’s Mangistao province on January 14 to protest rising gas prices.
Opposing the issue, they called on Kazakh authorities to reduce car fuel prices, which have risen to 120 “tenge” (Kazakh currency) per liter since the beginning of the new year.
