The real goals of Mahmoud Abbas’ trip to Egypt.
A Lebanese newspaper wrote that the head of the Palestinian Authority will travel to Egypt to save the organization from collapse in order to save the organization.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas left for Egypt this Sunday.
The visit was made in response to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to attend the inauguration of the fourth edition of the World Youth Association, said Diab al-Loh, the Palestinian ambassador to Egypt.
Al-Akhbar newspaper wrote in a report that the purpose of Abbas’s visit is to inform Al-Sisi about the results of his meeting with Bani Gantz, the Israeli Minister of War.
Abbas met with him at Gantz’s private home about two weeks ago and reportedly focused on security and economic issues.
Abu Mazen will also seek to protect the interests of the Palestinian Authority in order to prevent its collapse in the wake of the escalating economic crisis, the report said.
Al-Akhbar added that Abbas also called on al-Sisi to put pressure on the two movements to halt the activities of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, as these activities have a negative impact on the organization’s position due to the ongoing media attacks against the PA.
On the other hand, the meeting of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which was scheduled to take place on the 20th of this month (January), has been delayed.
Al-Akhbar quoted informed sources as saying that the main reason for the delay was the differences between the Fatah movement and the PLO in Gaza and Syria, especially the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Palestine and the Democratic Movement for the Liberation of Palestine. The two groups rejected Abbas’s recent decisions and sought to introduce new ones that contradicted Fatah’s views in the current era.
