The price of electricity is likely to rise again. Preparations have been made to drop an electric bomb on K-Electric consumers. Last year, NEPRA had approved to reduce the price of electricity by 99 paisa per unit.
According to the details, electricity for Karachi is likely to be expensive at Rs 5.50 per unit. K Electric’s request for increase in unit price of electricity in NEPRA will be heard today. K Electric has applied for a quarterly and a monthly fuel adjustment.
For the adjustment from July to September 2021, electricity has been requested to be increased by Rs. It may be recalled that last year NEPRA approved to reduce the price of electricity by 99 paisa per unit. According to the details, NEPRA has approved to reduce the price of electricity by 99 paisa per unit and this approval has been given in the context of the last quarter adjustment of the financial year 2021.
NEPRA sent the decision to reduce the price of electricity to the federal government for notification. According to NEPRA, this decision will provide relief of Rs 22.48 billion to consumers and the reduction in electricity prices will be effective from December 1, 2021. According to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, consumers will get reduction relief for 3 months.
It may be recalled that earlier there was a possibility of increase in the price of electricity once again and CPPA had requested for an increase in the unit price of electricity by Rs4.33 paise. During the last one year, the price of electricity has been increased by more than Rs. 18 per unit.
