Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister: The United States must return to rebuild Afghanistan.
“The United States has devastated Afghanistan’s economy for the past 20 years, and now it must return to Afghanistan to rebuild it,” said the political deputy foreign minister of the Taliban interim government.
Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, the political deputy foreign minister of the Taliban interim government, said in a speech commemorating International Refugee Day on December 18 that the United States was the cause of the current unrest in Afghanistan and that the United States should return to rebuild Afghanistan.
“It is the duty of the world, especially the United States, to take an active part in the development of Afghanistan,” Stanekzai said. “They have ruined our economy for the last 20 years, now it is their duty to come back and play an active role in rebuilding Afghanistan’s economy.”
Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai also accused the United States of violating the Doha Agreement, saying that the country was committed to recognizing the Taliban and reopening its embassy in Kabul after leaving Afghanistan.
“In the Doha peace agreement, the United States has pledged to recognize the future Islamic system and keep its embassy open with the departure of the last American soldier,” Stanekzai added.
Meanwhile, the acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees called on countries in the region to deal with Afghan refugees in accordance with international principles and laws.
Taliban officials called the migration crisis a legacy of Afghanistan’s 40-year war and called on the international community to work with Afghanistan to prevent it.
