Russia: The United States seeks to impose its failed democracy on others.
A senior Russian official has said that despite the failure of American democracy, Washington is still seeking to impose it on others.
A senior Russian official has said that the failure of American values inside the country has hampered its self-proclaimed goal of promoting democracy around the world.
“Political elites in the United States are trying to convince themselves that their country is still the only superpower and domination,” said Yuri Avarianov, a senior Russian National Security Council official. “Their world is not challenging, and all the world powers align themselves only with Washington.”
He added: “There is a proverb in the Russian language that says that those who do what they do preach to others about it. This is what the United States is doing: they have failed to build democracy at home, but they are very eager to do it in other countries.
He added: “What else can American leaders do? “They can only resort to ideological games to convince themselves and others that the United States is still a model of democracy and has a moral right to determine which countries fit into that model and which cannot be called democracies.”
The administration of US President Joe Biden has invited 110 countries to attend a virtual summit called the “Democracy Summit” that begins today.
A few days ago, an American thinker criticized the idea, stating that Washington is no longer in a position to chair the Democracy Summit.
“Because the real hot market path for democracy, as Biden himself acknowledges, is to show that democratic societies can perform better than their authoritarian alternatives,” wrote Stephen Walt, a Harvard professor, American theorist, and author. “This means that these societies must be able to build more prosperous, safer and more fulfilling lives for their citizens while maintaining the freedoms and dignity of the citizen on whom real democracies rely.”
