Palestinians dissatisfied with Egypt’s hollow promise; Intensification of tension on the resistance agenda.
Following Egypt’s non-commitment as a mediator to its promises to the Gaza Strip, a senior Hamas source said the movement was considering escalating tensions against the Zionist regime.
An informed source in Hamas told Al-Jazeera that in the wake of the continuing siege of Gaza, the delay in rebuilding the region and the deteriorating humanitarian situation, Hamas political and military leaders are considering escalating tensions against the Zionist regime.
Criticizing Egypt’s policies toward the Gaza Strip, the Hamas-affiliated official said that the continued Israeli aggression on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the confiscation of land and the intensification of actions against Palestinian prisoners are like a spark that will explode the situation again.
Regarding the options that Hamas political and military leaders will consider, he said: “The options proposed include popular escalation (protests), the defeat of the naval siege with the power of resistance, as well as the military option.” We will not allow the current situation to continue and their stage will prove the truth of what we said.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction with Egypt’s behavior and delay in fulfilling its promises to Gaza, the source said Cairo had not yet committed to what it had promised to Palestinian groups on reconstruction. Egypt continues to be strict with Palestinian travelers and has not allowed thousands of them to travel through the Rafah crossing.
He stressed that this behavior of Egypt shows that it has abandoned its commitment to oblige the Zionist regime in return for its commitment to resist the ceasefire.
In this regard, the Palestinian analyst Mustafa al-Suwaf said that Egypt is not playing a mediating role in the Palestinian cause, but is playing the role of putting pressure on the Palestinians and the resistance groups. None of Egypt’s promises to Gaza have been fulfilled since the Battle of Saif al-Quds.
